Alison Hartley

Alison has extensive experience of dealing with Claimant catastrophic brain injury claims in a career that has spanned more than 3 decades. She has a particular interest in child brain injury claims and professional negligence claims arising from the under settlement of high value personal injury claims. She has also successfully represented dependents bringing claims under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976 and victims of crime pursuing claims under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority procedure.

Career and education history

  • Sheffield University LLB Law 1985
  • Trained at Leak Almond and Parkinson, Manchester 1986 to 1988.
  • Qualified at Leak Almond and Parkinson in 1988 then worked there and the later merged firm of Cobbett Leak Almond/Cobbetts until September 1999.
  • Joined Hugh Potter & Co in October 1999 and remained with Potter Rees thereafter until the merger with Hugh James in 2022.

Recent experience

  • Acted as the instructing solicitor in the case of Dunhill -v- Burgin 2014 UKSC 18 which deals with the issue of capacity to conduct legal proceedings.
