Interesting day so far at the @ManLawSoc GDPR and Social Media Law Conference
Cathy is a graduate member of CILEx and has worked in the Court of Protection department for 14 years. She specialises in managing the financial affairs of clients who lack capacity and, whilst the majority of her clients have sustained a severe brain injury, she also enjoys working with clients who have learning disabilities.
With a degree in Criminology & Sociology, Cathy had originally planned to work in the Criminal Justice System but, after accepting a position in our Court of Protection department in 2003, she found supporting clients who have sustained serious injuries to be immensely rewarding.
Cathy works alongside our litigators, managing client finances in order to facilitate their rehabilitation, setting up care and therapy packages and arranging for the purchase and adaptation of suitable accommodation. She works with clients and their families both throughout the litigation process and following settlement, arranging for investment of compensation and working with the client to budget longer term, to ensure their needs are met throughout their lifetime.
Outside of work Cathy enjoys holidays to America and the Lake District, renovating her home, and watching football.
I would like to say a big thank you to all at Potter Rees Dolan, who helped get Criminal Injuries Compensation for my brother Billy, who suffered a brain injury caused by a hammer attack in Manchester in 1997. There have been a lot of ups and downs with Billy's behaviour problems. He spent a lot of time in hospitals and rehab and Billy now lives in Cardiff with the help of family and carers. He now has his own house and lives independently. PotterReesDolan still look after Billy's affairs because he is in the court of protection, so I know Billy will be looked after for the rest of his life. I would like to say again thank you Hugh, Cathy and Margaret for all your help you have given us and for the future help we will need.
