Helen Budge

Helen is a senior solicitor in our clinical negligence department. She has nearly 20 years of experience providing legal advice and support to claimants who have suffered serious injuries and has specialised in clinical negligence cases for the last 15. Helen deals with a broad range of medical negligence cases including brain injury cases (both adult and child), amputations, fatal claims and spinal injury cases. She has also represented many children who have cerebral palsy as a result of brain damage at birth.

Education & career

Helen origionally studied Modern History at Durham University, graduating in 1995. She then went on to study for the PGDL and LPC at Manchester Metropolitan University and qualified as a solicitor in 2005. Helen comments:

“My interest in law came from wanting to find a career which I felt would make good use of the skills I’d acquired in the course of my degree. I chose clinical negligence because I enjoy working with people but also find the medicine really interesting, so it was an ideal fit for me.”

In 2018, Helen joined the renowned clinical negligence team here at Potter Rees Dolan - working closely with Helen Dolan, Lesley Herbertson and Gill Edwards. Helen says she is passionate about the work that she does, both because of the difference that a successful claim can make to the life of an individual client, and also because such cases play a fundamental role in improving patient safety.

Professional Accreditations

Helen has recently been recognised by the prestigious Legal 500.

Legal 500 says:
"Potter Rees Dolan has a 'superb clinical team' under the leadership of 'redoubtable' name partner Helen Dolan. The group is recognised for its  specialism in complex brain and spinal injury cases as well as surgical injuries, failure to diagnose cases and injuries requiring amputation. Lesley Herbertson  and Gill Edwards were promoted to partner in March 2018, while senior solicitor Helen Budge joined from Slater & Gordon in May 2018."
