Action for Brain Injury Week or ABI Week is an annual campaign designed to raise awareness of the devastating effects of brain injury and is organised by Headway - the brain injury association, one of the UK's leading brain injury charities and a charity we hold dear to our hearts here at Potter Rees Dolan. This year the focus is on a powerful statistic - every 90 seconds, someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury.
There are many possible causes of brain injuries: road traffic collisions, a knock to the head due to an assault, strokes and brain tumours. A brain injury can also be sustained through the negligence of a medical professional during surgery or birth, for example.
Everything about us as individuals is controlled by the brain; how we talk, how we move, what we say and how we feel. A brain injury can have devastating, life-long effects on anyone, and not only affect the person injured, but also their family and friends.
Support Headway - the brain injury association
This Action for Brain Injury Week, why not take a few minutes to find out more about Headway and the work they do and, if you can, get involved by donating, volunteering, or simply raising awareness of the charity's services – 'because every 90 seconds, someone like you needs their help'.
