Car insurance claims involving injury to pedestrians and cyclists increase
The number of car insurance claims received by insurer More Than for bodily injury involving pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists has doubled in recent months.
According to More Than, claims have increased from one in ten to one in five. It has been suggested that the government's encouragement for the general public to take up cycling and walking to tackle obesity during the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, combined with more car users returning to the road following the easing of the lockdown, may have led to an increase in personal injuries. Head of car insurance at More Than, Gareth Davies, has urged all road users to be extra cautious and leave each other enough space to avoid injury.
"Wise words and sound advice Gareth. Motorists give horses a wide berth so why not cyclists? Five feet is sweet!"
